of Mount Royal United Church for Friday May 26th 2023
Welcome to our one-hundredth and forty-fifth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.
If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca
we will do our very best to put it on for you.
A quick reminder that our Sunday Service is live streamed from the sanctuary beginning at 10:30 AM and can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 10:15 AM with music and the announcement slides before the service begins
with Rev. Stuart.
The weekly bulletin will be available here.
This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.
We hope you have a very good day today. Best Regards, Newsletter Committee
Message from - a member of our Community of Faith, Susan Fowler
Hi. I hope you’re having a good week. Sometimes the so-called
short ones seem the busiest, especially if you benefited from an extra day
off. Its great to have a holiday but we end up cramming 5 days of work into 4
if you ask me. And I’m retired…
This week we welcome back Rev. Danny Compton as pulpit
supply. His message is entitled “The Wind Beneath My Wings”. What an
appropriate sounding message for Pentecost Sunday! Maybe he’ll talk about the
mystery of the Holy Spirit. Guess we’ll hear.
When I saw that title in the bulletin, it made me think of
people who have helped me, quietly in the background throughout my lifetime. I
know I’m a lucky one compared to some folks. When I think of people who have
just been there for me, I can name parents, my late husband, friends, work
buddies, and now my adult children who have and continue to support me. As I
got older, I realized people I know from church can do that for me as well. And
the nicest thing is, they have been or still are just there, quietly doing
their thing. I am sometimes not even aware of that support; until I am.
Faith can be like that too, don’t you think? Kind of carries
you along. Sometimes you are aware of how much God is with you and other times
its not first and foremost on your mind. Sort of reminds us of the poem
“Footprints in the Sand”. I’m not going to repeat it here, but you can search
it under that title if you don’t remember all the words. Even if you
have forgotten it all, you’ll remember the important part. Here’s the first part
to tweak your memory…
“One night
I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.”
Wish I
could give credit to the author, but it seems there have been lawsuits to
establish it so safe to say I cannot confirm with certainty. Sad that something
intended to inspire and give hope and comfort that God is with you throughout
your life’s journey, has ended up in bitter battles over who originally penned
it.
Before I
sign off this week, did you see the feature on Bill Mayo and Outdoor
Enthusiasts on CTV Thursday night at supper time? I was told Wednesday that it
would be on. Bill, a member of Mt Royal, turned 90 in May. What an inspiration!
Feel free
to email me if you have any questions. I’ll redirect, as possible.
Have a good week.

PS -I’m no longer Council Chair but until we have someone to redirect the email to, for a time, I will respond to your messages or pass them to the appropriate Council Committee Chair.
